Mission Statement
The Green Chicago Restaurant Co-op is committed to providing professional procurement services in support of increasing the type and volume of sustainable products and services purchased by restaurants and other businesses in the Chicago area.
Purpose
The goals of The Green Chicago Restaurant Co-op are to:
- Identify and provide information about local sources of sustainable products and services.
- Provide members with opportunities to easily purchase environmentally preferable products at a cost-competitive price, as compared to traditional products.
We will be guided in our efforts by consistently applying the following criteria:
- Reduce or eliminate toxicity; in particular long term persistent toxicity Conserve natural resources, materials, and energy;
- Maximize recyclability and recycled content of the purchased products;
- Help educate businesses and residents on the merits of environmentally preferable products;
- Improve conditions for achieving a healthy community through conserving natural resources, improving water quality and reducing waste generation; Encourage regional partnerships;
- Reduce costs.
The intent is for Co-op members to issue their own purchase orders directly to the preferred supply vendors. Participation in preferred supplier agreements is voluntary for Co-op members and each member will independently purchase and pay for its own requirements. We are committed to utilizing technology to the fullest in the procurement process including electronic ordering, vendor web-sites, and payment processes.
